About

Originally from Sydney, Phibs has been painting graffiti for well over a
decade. He is well known for his incredibly detailed cut-back technique and
tribal influenced style. Now in Melbourne, he continues to push himself
by bringing his style to new areas of design working not just on walls, but
canvas, skateboards and clothing. He has recently toured Asia as part of
K-spray and been commissioned to create artwork for Absolute Vodka.

Hey Phbs, nice work, seen your stuff around alot.

I come from ESPVisuals and help out a little with a crew called Adapta from London (adapta.com)

In 2007 Adapta launched a London Streetart exhibition in Hong Kong with artists such as Dface and Herkut.. it was a huge success and the second Hong Kong exhibition will be held in March this year.

Adapta is looking for Melbourne artists they may have gallery connections in the city to try and organize a London/Melbourne exhibition of streetartists/artwork… as I am kinda new to Melbourne and Adapta is mainly based in London, we dont yet have alot of contacts, and were wondering if you were interested in helping out.. simply by providing any useful contacts for galleries that we could pursue.

Drop me a line at philsyb@yahoo.com if your interested or want to know more… if you go to the ESPVisuals blog (http://www.espvisuals.blogspot.com) then search under ‘adapta’ and you can see some pics from the last show, or just go to the adapta website (click ‘english’) for more info.

    Cheers.

Hi Phibs, I am a performer from Melbourne, and I am writing at the moment an application for Next Wave Festival that will be happening next year. The theme of my project is Human Graffiti, not a new theme by a long-shot, however, the way I am applying it is, I think. By taking over Streets, Lanes and other uncovered walls for the duration of the Festival I will be choregraphing 10 peformers in wall and pavement based dance – my influence at the moment is Butoh which allows for such an awesome degree of freedom and range of possibilities, it also challenges so much of what is considered ‘dance’ and our perception of the world and the human experience.
The reason for writing you this is that I absolutely love and admire your art, it is inspiring, it is beautiful, and I would love to get your thoughts on the medium of graffiti at this stage of our evolution as a species – yours is art, so much may not be considered art, some is still motivated by revolution and social change, what motivates you? If you had the time to shoot me a few words it would be greatly appreciated, but feel no pressure. And just so you know, I would not be using your words in the project or quoting you, unless of course I had your permission.
    Cheers and thanks again,
    Tristan.
